Josephine County Parks Recognized for Outstanding Boating Facilities Maintenance

            The Oregon State Marine Board recognized Josephine County Parks for "Outstanding Boating Facilities Maintenance" at the Marine Board's Boating Facilities Grant Workshop, held in Salem on October 28.  The Board recognizes outstanding boating facility managers during their grant workshop, held once every two years.  This is the first time Josephine County Parks was honored.
            "Josephine County boating facilities are consistently clean, safe and inviting whenever we stop by to inspect them," said Wayne Shuyler, Boating Facilities Manager for the Marine Board.  "Parks Director Doreen Ferguson and her staff do a terrific job keeping their boating facilities ship-shape.  Josephine County boating facilities are truly outstanding," Shuyler added.
            The award is presented to an agency that participates in the Marine Board's Maintenance Assistance Program (MAP) and has demonstrated over the two previous boating seasons, a commitment to maintain boating facilities in a safe and inviting condition.  The boating facility must show evidence of regular cleaning, repair and maintenance, based on site inspections made by Marine Board staff.  In addition, the recipient has demonstrated prompt action by fixing any conditions brought to their attention by Boating Facilities Program staff based on complaints received from boaters and observed conditions.
            Josephine County is home to some of the most beautiful parks in the Pacific Northwest.  Josephine County Parks manages a majority of the parks along the scenic Rogue River.  The county provides public boating and fishing access to the Rogue River at a number of sites, including: Almeda, Ferry Hole, Griffin Park, Indian Mary, Schroeder Park, Whitehorse and Pierce Riffle.  Lake Selmac, the only lake park in the Josephine County Park system, boasts the second largest bass ever caught in Oregon.
