For Immediate Release Date: Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Marine Board Seeks Comments on Proposed Rules for Foothills Park Dock and Holgate Channel

The Oregon State Marine Board is seeking public comment on two proposed rules in the Portland area: A 100 foot slow-no-wake zone around the Lake Oswego Foothills Park dock and a slow-no-wake zone/wake enhancing device restriction within the Holgate Channel. The comment period opens December 1.
The proposed rule for the Foothills Park dock is in response to the City of Lake Oswego's request for a variance to the statewide 200-foot slow-no-wake rule. Due to the nature and width of the Willamette River at mile post 20.5 where the dock is located, the smaller restricted area would interfere less with boats operating in the channel. A public meeting is scheduled for January 19, 2010 from 7-9 pm at the City of Lake Oswego, City Council Chambers, 380 "A" Ave. in Lake Oswego. Written public comment will be accepted December 1, 2010 through the closing of the public meeting on January 19, 2011. Written comments can be submitted via email to osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us<mailto:osmb.rulemaking at state.or.us> or by U.S. mail to June LeTarte, Rules Coordinator, 435 Commercial Street NE, Suite 400, P.O. Box 14145, Salem, OR 97309-5056. Comments via telephone cannot be accepted.
The proposed rules for the Holgate Channel would prohibit the use of wake enhancing devices in the channel and establish a slow-no-wake in the area south of a point 200 feet north of East Island to the south end of the channel. A public meeting and special Board meeting are scheduled for:

 * January 20, 2011 from 7-10 pm at the Portland Building Auditorium, 1120 SW Fifth Ave., in Portland. This is a public meeting.
 * February 17, 2011 from 7-10 pm at the Portland Building Auditorium, 1120 SW Fifth Ave., in Portland. This is a special Board meeting.
Written public comment will be accepted December 1, 2010 through the closing of the public meeting on February 17, 2011.
