Marine Board Extending Office Hours for Boaters before Big Holiday Weekend
The weather is finally starting to feel like summer, just in time for the July fourth weekend. For boaters who've been waiting for that good forecast to get their boats ready, the Oregon State Marine Board is opening at 7:30 am and closing at 5:30 pm on Friday, July 1, to take care of any registration or education business before the long weekend. Boat owners in Oregon are required to have a current boat registration and if operating a motorboat over 10 hp and boat operators must take a boater education course and carry a boater education card when operating on the water.
The Marine Board office is normally open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and is located at 435 Commercial Street NE in Salem.
Boats with expired '09 or '10 registration decals can also renew online and print out a temporary registration. Visit https://securepay.oregon.gov/osmb/Renewal.jsp to take advantage of this option. Boating safety courses are also available online and after successfully completing a boating safety course, the operator can print out a certificate of completion that acts as a temporary boater education card good for 60 days.
Remember to boat safe: boat sober and wear your life jacket. For more tips to help you prepare for your maiden voyage, visit www.boatoregon.com<http://www.boatoregon.com>.
