Marine Board Approves Grant for Marshall Island Boat Ramp Replacement


               The Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant to replace the Marshall Island State Park Boat Ramp on the Willamette River for the Department of Parks and Recreation, on June 27 at their quarterly meeting held in Sisters, OR.
OPRD applied for, and received a grant to replace the existing boat ramp with a one-lane concrete ramp and improve the parking area.  The Board approved $22,500 in state boater funds combined with $15,400 of in-kind contributions, $57,500 in applicant cash, and $150,000 in federal Sport Fish Restoration Funds, administered by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.  The total cost for the project is $245,400.
Permits have been obtained and the in-water work period has been established from June 1 through October 15, 2012.  Construction is anticipated to begin next summer and boaters will be informed of any temporary closures to the ramp.
The Oregon State Marine Board is funded entirely by user fees, and the revenue generated from the fees goes back to boaters in the form of boating facility improvements, law enforcement services, and education and outreach.
